Frequently Asked Questions
PROGRAMS

We have programs that focus on pain relief, injury recovery, stress relief, enhancing fitness, addressing anxiety and anti-aging.

At our Health Chat you can discuss which of our programs best fits your need.

We recommend you complete the whole of one of our programs to achieve the optimal outcome. These therapies work best and elicit greater change on the body’s physiology when done in a consistent and methodical way.

To really achieve a difference in your health, you will need to commit to 2-3 sessions per week.

We realise that each of our programs involves a significant financial commitment. While we encourage people to book all of their sessions and pay for the program up front, we do accept sessional payments. For details of the cost of our programs click here.

While insurance companies all support the concept of wellness and wellbeing, they have a limited number of therapies that they will cover to achieve this: acupuncture and remedial massage are the only aspects of the programs that are covered.

If you decide to do one of our programs you will, subject to availability, have unlimited access to the infrared sauna and PEMF that relate to your program.

These therapies include one or more of the following: PEMF (pulsed electromagnetic field therapy), far infra-red saunas and intermittent hypoxic therapy. Ring and ask to speak to our wellness consultant and she will guide you to the therapy or therapies of most benefit to you.

While we recommend people attend three sessions per week, we recognise this may not be possible for everyone. We encourage you to think seriously about what your priorities are and how you can manage your commitments prior to beginning the program. We have had some clients who have derived benefit from doing two sessions per week as this is all they are able to commit to. The gains may be slower to perceive and are different for every individual.

The best time to start the program is when you are able to make the personal commitment to yourself to complete the program and you are ready to attend to the aspects of your wellbeing that are important to you. The wellness consultants are here to support you through wellness coaching and facilitation of the therapies. Your role is to be present, aware and committed to the process.

Yes. All therapies available at WoW can be accessed individually and plans are available for the Infrared Saunas, Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy and Intermittent Hypoxic Therapy.

INFRARED SAUNAS

Traditional saunas rely on heat alone to create a response, infrared saunas use a combination of infra-red wavelengths to produce heat. Far, mid and near wavelengths all penetrate the skin and body to different depths to achieve outcomes. Recently there has been much interest in the ability of infra-red to facilitate optimal physical, mental and emotional functioning.

Your first session will cost $30.00. Subsequent sessions are charged at $40.00 per session or a 5 pack can be purchased for $150.00. We are running a special this winter of a 10 pack for $250.00 working out at $25.00 per session!

The length of each session depends on which program we are running for you. There are 6 different programs : Cardio( 45min), Detox (37min), Pain Relief (30min), Relaxation (40min), Weight Loss (30min), Anti-Aging (30min). We will discuss with you which program is best for you.

Each program varies slightly but the temperature sits between 50 and 55 degrees. It is so so good to warm up from the inside out on a cold winter’s day!

We provide water and towel with each session, there are lights for reading and a radio in each sauna. Bookings are essential as we do not keep the saunas hot unnecessarily. We require at least half an hours’ notice in order to prepare and heat the sauna for you. We have 4 individual saunas so you have total privacy, your own little piece of bliss!

This is an individual preference, most people try to have one or two a week.

Infrared therapy can help to cleanse your system and more fully oxygenate your cells. As part of a multidisciplinary therapy it can be used to assist a variety of conditions. Sauna can also be useful in boosting your immune system.

LOW LEVEL LIGHT THERAPY

A laser is a device that emits light. The word ‘laser’ stands for Light Amplification by the Stimulated Emission of Radiation.. Laser light comes from a very small single source creating what is known as a coherent light source. In this state the light particles, or photons, penetrate deeply into the tissues of the body, uniquely maintaining coherence to generate a therapuetic effect on the cells. Low level or ‘cold’ laser, uses low intensity light in wavelengths between 400 and 950nm as part of a treatment plan indiviually designed to meet clients’ health needs. It is painless, non-invasive and rarely has side effects.

Lasers were first used in Russia in the late 1960s. More recently, therapeutic applications of LLLT have been researched in other parts of the world building a substantial body of research. Over 3000 papers are available on PUBMED on the physiological basis and clinical benefits of low level laser therapy.

LLLT increases the production of nitric oxide which is the body’s natural blood vessel dilator. Increased nitric oxide and blood vessel dilation brings more oxygen and nutrients to injured tissue thereby resolving inflammation.

LLLT has an inhibitory effect on pain receptors. It also stimulates the production of endogenous opioids, serotonin and acetylcholine. Additionally, through modifying protein metabolism, LLLT can change the sensory processing of pain at the spinal ganglion or nerve relay centre.

LLLT can stimulate the mitochondria in cells to produce significantly more adenosine triphosphate (ATP) which is the body’s energy molecule. This increased production can be used to accelerate healing of tissue and to reduce oxidative stress.

Some examples are:

  • Neck and back pain (upper and lower back) especially chronic pain
  • Tendonitis and tennis elbow
  • Arthritic pain and joint pain throughout the body
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Carpal tunnel and RSI
  • Sciatic nerve pain
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Neuralgia
  • Migraine
  • Muscle sprains and strains
  • Nerve pain in the extremities
  • Peripheral Neuropathy and nerve injuries

Low Level Laser is a well-tolerated therapy. No significant side-effects from treatment have been reported during 45 years of clinical use.

PHION STRUCTURED WATER

Structured water is water that has been activated or energised to permanently hold a negative voltage (- millivolts). Water structuring occurs in nature when water is allowed to move in a natural flow of vortexes (left and right turning or anti-clockwise and clockwise turning). Most wild (pristine) rivers and some springs produce structured water in the presence of sunlight energy and natural biological conditions.

Water that is piped to most households or held in storage will have a positive (+) charge or five-sided crystalline structure. The restructuring of this water to a negative (-) charge with a six-sided crystalline structure can be achieved in a number of ways:

  • Light energy
  • Minerals and specifically silica and crystal energy
  • Vortex energy
  • Magnetic energy
There are many devices or systems on the market that use one or combinations of these techniques.

The most common approach to energise structured water for health and healing qualities is through magnetism. The standout research on the link between magnetism and health was undertaken by Albert Ray Davis and Dr. Robert O Becker. This research jointly confirmed some critical aspects of the application of magnetism for biological function i.e. separateness of the magnetic pole effects on living systems. They found that the positive pole (South on the magnet) is the signal of a stress or injury in the body and that the negative pole (North on the magnet) governed healing and normalisation of body functions. This scientific work, particularly by Davis also found that:

  • The positive charge is produced by a clockwise spin in water and the negative charge is an anti-clockwise spin
  • Positive charge produces oxidation, acidification, excitation, activation and stress.
  • Negative charge produces reduction (opposite of oxidation), alkalinity, calmness, relaxation and anti-stress.
  • The pineal gland needs to absorb the Earth’s negative charge to release melatonin for healthy sleep. Melatonin is enhanced by the sun’s red light in the early morning and diminished by the sun’s blue light in the afternoon.
  • Most electro-magnetic energy in the home (TV, computers, and other electrical appliances) emits positive magnetic signals that diminish body functions, eg. melatonin, etc.
  • The spin of electrons in the body is anti-clockwise with a negative charge and the body water is predominately negative charge and therefore the body electricity is negatively charged.
  • The flow of blood through the body produces negative magnetic energy. The inhaled oxygen carries the Earth’s negative magnetic energy to cells.
  • The body’s negative magnetic energy maintains the buffering system of the cell water pH in a normal and slightly alkaline state. Therefore, acidic conditions in the body’s cell water promote mental and physical degradation or deprivation of body functions (eg. inflammation).

It is commonly known that water is a simple compound of H2O and it is the most abundant substance on Earth. Water is fundamental to life and exists in the atmosphere (as vapour) and deep into the Earth’s mantle. Most living things comprise at least 70% water by weight (albeit that 99% of human molecules are water molecules), and it readily bonds with other elements through its unique electric dipole in which the positive (+) and negative (-) charges are separated. The oxygen carries the negative charge and the hydrogen carries the positive charge. Hydrogen can bond with other electro-negative atoms, such as oxygen and nitrogen. This is why water has such a wide diversity of structures and possibilities in nature.

The human body is equipped with a detoxification system (such as the cytochrome P450, a super family of enzymes), the design of which makes it possible to degrade chemicals that did not even exist at the time in the distant past that these elaborate enzyme systems evolved. This adaptation to the environment is almost as if life is predesigned to be able to survive the burgeoning, geometrically expanding chemical onslaught of the past century.

Scientific data have already confirmed the following health benefits for structured water:

  • Improved digestion
  • Eliminates cellular waste and toxins
  • Strengthens immune response
  • Reduces excess acidity in blood
  • Reduces cholesterol levels (prevents arteriosclerosis) Cholesterol deposits are due to free radical oxidation while skin wrinkles are caused by free radical cross linkage of collagen molecules, and this can be reduced with negatively charged/structured water
  • Helps blood circulation (prevents varicose veins). Poor circulation, high blood pressure, arterial sclerosis and cellulite from cholesterol deposits are dissolved by structured water when used for drinking and cooking.
  • Skin becomes softer and less wrinkled
  • Arthritis, kidney stones and gall bladder stones are alleviated by a rebalancing of the calcium metabolism with structured water

Water is known to lose it negative charge in about 2 days after being removed from a flowing state and placed in storage. This is why scientists and others have vigorously pursued the design of water conditioning devices since about the 1930’s. Devices since this time have included a range of mechanisms using physical mechanisms to vortex water, energy transfer from existing energised spring water and magnetism.

PULSED ELECTRO-MAGNETIC FIELD THERAPY

In the research and clinical trials, more than 10,000 patients were treated with PEMF and the absence of side effects was proven.

PEMF is an ideal therapy to be applied as an adjunctive therapy. Examples include supplements, chemotherapy, drugs, acupuncture, massage, etc. The absence of side effects ensures that there is no conflict between therapies.

Over a period of months PEMF normalizes the Ph and viscosity of the blood and therefore improves blood circulation. This influence of the blood pressure takes place during the first two minutes of each PEMF session. During the last six minutes, nothing much happens in regards to blood pressure.

With the help of dark field microscopy, it is possible to demonstrate that the viscosity of blood is decreased using PEMF making it less likely for clots to develop. Clots that were present before therapy may also dissolve very slowly. This reduces the risk of stroke.

The application of PEMF’s saw tooth wave signal assists ion transfer from the capillary bed into cells. This is the known method of achieving ion transport. PEMF also enhances the ability to separate ions and in particular to stream the hydrogen ions. The hydrogen ions stream through the electrolytic fluids (blood and extra-cellular fluids) and arrive at the cell membrane. Calcium is bound to negative charges in the protein layer of the membrane. The positively charged hydrogen ions combine with the negative charges bonding to the calcium and release calcium ions. This causes the calcium cascade. A result of the calcium cascade in the blood is that calcium deposited on the walls of the vessels is set free. This is not an immediate occurrence but one that occurs over a period of six months or more. It means that arteriosclerosis processes (narrowing of the vessels) may be slowly reduced. When the calcium arrives inside a cell a series of positive effects are generated:

  • The macrophages of the cell are activated. This is an important component of the immune system. They dispose of cell refuse and eat pathogens (eg. Bacteria).
  • Enzymes are activated, stimulated and controlled. In short, the metabolism of the cell is regulated.
  • Cell division or differentiation is stimulated. Differentiation means that every cell in the human body performs its own special function.
  • Blood pressure sensors normalize the blood pressure. In the medulla oblongata (brain stem), there are centres for the blood pressure which react positively to the calcium effect of the magnetic field and lower or raise blood pressure.
  • Sensitivity to adrenalin and cortisone decreases.
  • The production of insulin is activated (provided that the cells of the islands of Langerhans which are responsible for the production of insulin are intact)
  • The channels (gates) in the cells’ membranes open which intensifies ion exchange.
  • The sensitivity of the nerve ends increase because the calcium attaches itself to the nerve ends.
  • The fatty acid metabolism is normalized, making it easier to lose weight.

The healing process is accelerated under the influence of the magnetic field. In addition, in the case of non-healing bone fractures, the callus forms and the bones set.

People, especially women, suffer from reducing bone density with increased age. Whilst there is enough calcium in the food taken, the body is unable to take it up. Indeed, there is a drain on calcium resources. PEMF creates a separation of ions and the calcium cascade frees up calcium resources and makes it available to the bone structure. PEMF will increase bone density and remove the pain that is a symptom of the complaint. The time frame for reduction of symptoms will depend on each individual’s metabolism and may take many months. As symptoms decline, the therapy should be supported by well-targeted load bearing exercise.

Magnetic fields occur naturally and living cells depend upon them to assist in the maintenance of membrane potential. The earth and sun create magnetic fields. When a cell is at rest it does not create a magnetic field. Human movement creates a magnetic field that stimulates the cell. Hence the importance of exercise in the maintenance of health. Without the bio-magnetic fields from the earth and sunlight, life would not be possible. But what is most important is that when a human moves it generates a magnetic field that is used for cell regeneration. This maintains the membrane potential at the ideal -70 to -90mV level. It is ideal for a human to optimize the potential of its cell membrane with the bio-magnetic field of the earth, the magnetic field of the sun or with the magnetic fields that are generated by human movement in order to create the optimum cell regeneration environment.

An electromagnetic field always involves currents of energy flows. A pulsing magnetic field is not a constant energy flow. It constantly varies from strong to weak. Pulsing magnetic fields occur naturally in nature. The bio-magnetic field of the earth, the magnetic field of the sun and a human’s own magnetic field are all pulsing magnetic fields.

The body’s cells quickly become used to a magnetic field and a constant field will quickly cease to have any effect on the cell membrane potential. By pulsing the wave it is possible to stop the cell from becoming accustomed to the field such that positive stimulation and energy transfer is achieved. This partly explains the effectiveness of PEMF.

During movement the human body generates a packet of frequencies. This results in improved blood circulation and therefore better oxygen supply, as well as increased food supply and waste removal. PEMF has the same effect as movement on the human body but it is more efficient because it is designed to resonate the body cells’ frequencies.

Blood circulation increases measurably within the first few minutes of application and this extends to the body’s extremities. Using a CMMD diagnostic device applied to the tip of a finger (to measure the capillary vessels), an increased temperature of 2 to3.5oC is normal, thus demonstrating the transfer of blood to the tissues. PEMF is an important aid for people with arteriosclerosis, whose vessels are narrowed.

Research on 5,000 students revealed that they had an average partial oxygen pressure of 70 mm of mercury which is lower than the average for the person of 75 years old thirty years ago. This is thought to be caused by lack of exercise, cultural factors and environmental degradation. This is the cause of the enormous increase of chronic diseases and also for example the occurrence of heart attack at an earlier age in men as well as in women. While in the old days heart attacks mostly occurred in men, physical activity of women has also decreased dramatically.
